  1. About LauraMcCrary ProFont...
  2.  
  3. LauraMcCrary is a narrow-ish semi-bold sans-serif font with a little of the 
  4. old Florida Art Deco style.  (sort of a ╥Helvetica went to Miami╙ style)   
  5. Even though it is somewhat Art Deco, it is very stable, readable, and can 
  6. be used in both text and display typface purposes.
  7.  
  8. LauraMcCrary is the second in a series of typefaces dedicated to our unborn 
  9. child.  We don't know if it will be a he or a she, so LauraMcCrary is named 
  10. after our choice of a girl's name.

  14. How to install LauraMcCrary ProFont
  15.  
  16. *********TrueType version:
  17.  
  18. 6.0.7 or 6.0.8 users can install LauraMcCrary using Font/DA mover 3.8 or 
  19. later, and copy all of the files enclosed in the bitmap suitcase to your 
  20. system file (or your Suitcase II¬ font file).  Be sure you have the 
  21. TrueType¬ init in your system folder at startup.

  23. 7.0 and 7.0.1 users can install LauraMcCrary by dragging the font suitcase 
  24. to the icon of your system folder.  The system will install it into the 
  25. system file for you.  If you are using Suitcase II¬, just drag the suitcase 
  26. onto your current SuitCase II suitcase font file.

  28. 7.1 users!  Even though system 7.1 operates (in respect to fonts) 
  29. differently, you can still install TrueType fonts by dragging them to the 
  30. System folder icon.  Instead of placing them in the system file, system 7.1 
  31. will place them in a folder called ╥Fonts╙.  Thanks for making it easy, 
  32. Apple Computer!

  35. your new font.

  40. To use LauraMcCrary with ATM¬, you must install  the bitmap file and the 
  41. outline file (in this case, it is named "LauraMcCra") must be in the system 
  42. folder before ATM will work with it.

  44. 6.0.x users can install LauraMcCrary using Font/DA mover 3.8 or later, and 
  45. copy all of the files enclosed in the bitmap suitcase to your system file 
  46. (or your Suitcase II¬ font file).  Be sure to install the LauraMcCra file 
  47. into your system folder.  The outline file will work with ATM¬ and/or a 
  48. PostScript¬ laser printer.

  50. 7.0 and 7.0.1 users can install LauraMcCrary by dragging the font suitcase 
  51. to the icon of your system folder.  The system will install it for you.  If 
  52. you are using Suitcase II¬, just drag the suitcase onto your current 
  53. suitcase font file.  Be sure to drag the LauraMcCra file onto your system 
  54. folder.  (The outline file will work with ATM¬ and/or a PostScript¬ laser 
  55. printer.)  If you are using ATM¬ version 2.0.2 or later, the LauraMcCra 
  56. file should be in your extensions folder.  If you are using ATM¬ 2.0 or 
  57. older, the LauraMcCra file should be in the first level of your system 
  58. folder, but not in your extensions folder.

  60. 7.1 users!  Now it's easier than ever!  At the time of this note, ATM 
  61. 2.0-3.0 work the same way. (I don't know if Adobe Systems will change the 
  62. way things work.)  Since the system folder now contains a fonts folder, 
  63. your bitmap suitcases will be placed in this folder.  HOWEVER, your 
  64. LauraMcCra (or other outline files) will be placed in the extensions 
  65. folder.  Even though having lots of typefaces makes for a crowded 
  66. extensions folder, ATM still works wonderfully well with 7.1.

  72. WHY ARE TYPE 1 FONTS IN TWO FILES?
  73.  
  74. The bitmap (or suitcase) file has been traditionally called the screen 
  75. font.  It is responsible for doing all sorts of systemic things, but most 
  76. importantly, your Mac uses this part of the font to display your new 
  77. typeface at smaller type sizes.  The other file, called an outline font (or 
  78. outline file) is designed to give ATM and/or your printer special 
  79. information about drawing your new typeface in OUTLINES (thereby the name 
  80. Outline), as opposed to drawing the letters in big, square chunks at large 
  81. typesizes.  ATM takes this outline file and draws outlines to your screen 
  82. to make it look almost as nice as your printer will print it (sort of a 
  83. WYSIWYG ╥what-you-see-is-what-you-get╙).

  85. If you want your Type 1 font to print smoothly, it must be placed in the 
  86. proper place (as described above).
